Understanding and Evidencing

Transformative Practice

at Pennine Suite, All Saints Building, Manchester Metropolitan University, Manchester

Registration from: 10.45 am

Session Runs: 11.15 am- 1.15 pm

A research based psychosocial approach to understanding how the arts can change individuals and communities followed by interactive workshops to explore how practitioners and organisations can evidence this.

For: individuals and organisations working in arts, health, voluntary sectors, cultural or arts and health organisations with some existing experience of developing or commissioning arts and health.

Lynn Froggett is Professor of Psychosocial Welfare and Director of the Psychosocial Research Unit at the University of Central Lancashire. She has led  a wide range research and evaluation  programmes in the relationship between of the arts and creativity and  health and well-being.  Contexts have spanned  the health, welfare and cultural sectors. Research site have included youth justice teams, primary health care, hospitals,  healthy living centres, public health initiatives, children’s centres,  museums and socially engaged arts institutions. Lynn Froggett has a cross- disciplinary  academic background in the Social Sciences and Humanities and a professional background as a practitioner and manager in social services.  Her over-riding research interest is  developing  evidence based understanding of how the arts can bring about change in individuals and communities. By investigating  the transformative effects of the arts in both personal and social worlds, she brings a distinctively psychosocial perspective to the work. Numerous publications reflect these interests and she co-edits the international Journal of Social Work Practice.  Lynn Froggett holds visiting professorships at universities in Norway (Stavanger)  and Denmark (Roskilde) . She co-edits the international Journal of Social Work Practice. She is founder member of the Psychosocial Network in the UK and of the International Research Group for Psycho-Societal  Analysis.
